Bible Study: I Corinthians Part VII
I Cor 8:7 – 11:3
We examine a similar grammatical structure in Gen 4:7 to support the plausibility of “virginity” in place of “virgin” in 1 Cor 7:36. Then we try to understand the immediate context of Paul’s teaching on the eating of meat sacrificed to idols, and his answer to his detractors in order to determine applications for modern believers. And we discover the application is charity, the theme of Paul’s Curriculum of Grace.
Are pastors today entitled to forego work and live by the gospel? Are baptism and the Lord’s Supper then two ordinances for the church? And is Paul speaking primarily of sensual sins w
hen he teaches about bringing his body into submission, and fleeing from idolatry, the way of escape from temptation?
And is the method of setting our affections on things above rooted in performances, ordinances, and ceremonies? or is is rooted in Bible study?
