Bible Study: I Corinthians Part X
I Corinthians 13 & 14 – Spiritual Gifts, Seeing Through a Glass Darkly, Very Good vs Perfect, Charity and Speaking in Tongues
This week we examine the sarcasm of Paul toward those in the Corinthian church coveting what they assume to be the “best” spiritual gifts, (and those who covet them today). We examine the scriptural evidence that in the early church, (before we had the complete Bible), God supernaturally appointed and confirmed His prophets, apostles and pastors, by Spiritual Gifts.
And then we get into the purpose of God from before the foundation of the world to teach the creation perfect charity so we could grow up into the perfect man in Christ. We cover “see through a glass darkly” and “being known as also I am known.”
We learn that Charity is exalted over spiritual gifts, (along with edification). And that prophecy that edifies is more valuable than the performance of the Sign Gifts granted to the early church before we had the complete Bible.
Listen in to see how the appointment of Timothy and Tutus differed from the appointment of their progeny, and how prophecy shifted from a supernatural gift to an obligation measured by study of the written word and preaching of sound doctrine.
find out what the Presbytery was! (and is…?)
And finally get our take on the unknown tongue.
