Bible Study: I Timothy Part I
I Timothy 1 & 2
Find out about the addition of “mercy” to Paul’s traditional tidings of grace and peace from God.We’ll consider the importance of doctrine in Paul’s letters and list the evidence that Paul was likely acquitted once in Rome and was traveling freely when he wrote I Timothy and Titus. We’ll also define “fables” and “endless genealogies,”
Hear how Paul warns against “vain jangling” and “teachers of the law,” and what is meant by using the law lawfully. We’ll study through Paul’s allusions to shipwreck, and turning false teachers over to satan that they might learn, (and hopefully return). Then we consider Paul’s exhortation to “war a good warfare”, and of prayer toward all men: first in the context of Hymenaeus and Alexander, and then to kings and authorities .
Paul was the due time testifier of God’s grace. Why did he call God “invisible.” We’ll look at what it means for men to “lift up holy hands” and for women to be modest, with “with shamefacedness and sobriety.” A godly woman knows what shame is, and is adorned not in pretty things, but in good works.
We’ll examine why it’s best for a godly woman to learn in silence, and how Paul’s instructions point us to meditation on the ideal walk of faith Christ has set before every believer.
