Bible Study: Prophecies of Bethlehemjudah
This week we begin in the Book of Ruth and the text takes us to the prophecies of Bethlehemjudah in Judges and beyond. We answer six questions about the opening section of Ruth:
- When were the Days of the Judges?
- What is an Ephrathite
- What and where is Bethlehemjudah?
- What and where is the land of Moab
- Is there a record of the famine of Ruth elsewhere in the Bible?
- Why did a famine come to the land of Israel?
In doing that and following the trail of Bethlehemjudah we visit a prophecy in Micah, examine the names and stories around Elimelech & Abimelech, and visit Genesis to understand Moab. We review God’s promises to Israel regarding plenty and famine, calculate where the book of Ruth fits chronologically with the Days of the Judges, and learn about God’s longsuffering with His children. Find out what God thinks of men doing “what is right in their own eyes”, and how such behavior led to open ignorance, superstition and blasphemy in just one generation! We close with a prophecy of Bethlehemjudah regarding the consequences of the priest you serve, and how it points to the dedication of Israels ultimate High Priest, Jesus Christ!
