Bible Study: Thessalonians Part I
I Thessalonians 1:1-4:12
We begin our study of 1st and 2nd Thessalonians with a biblical documentation of the approximate time during the Acts period when I Thessalonians was written, (thanks to our friends at Grace Ambassadors). We then detour for a quick review of the greetings that introduce each of Paul’s epistles. We also look at the Thessalonians three-fold demonstration of faith, love and hope, along with their election.
We’ll review the afflictions and tribulations that came upon Paul and the Thessalonians during the delivery of the gospel. We’ll answer the objection that we hold Paul’s words in higher regard than the Lord’s when we do dispensational bible study.
We’ll define “guile” and answer the questions: “should we hope for the coming of the Lord & can man please God?” And we’ll note Paul’s insistence that his behavior among them was to be noted, especially as others came along teaching and preaching in his absence.
Find pout what Paul means when he says the church at Thessalonica “became followers of the churches of God which in Judea” despite following a different dispensation! And we’ll look at what the wrath that came upon Judea “to the uttermost” was.
We’ll cover Paul’s allusion to the rapture and his clear intent to reassure the Thessalonians regarding the resurrection. We’ll also look at the only other “rapture specific” reference in the bible in I Cor 15:51-52 and the timing of the writing of I Corinthians versus I Thessalonians.
