Bible Study: Titus Part I
Titus 1:1-14
We’ll review a history of the man Titus from Acts through II Timothy and then study Paul’s service in acknowledgement of the work Christ did for him and in him, and us!
Then we look at what God promised, foreordained and predestined before the creation, and the mystery kept secret until it was revealed to Paul.
In light of Open View Theology we ask and answer, “Did God know sin would enter?” “Did he know Jesus would have to be sacrificed?” “What exactly was foreknown and foreordained before the creation?” “Has God had to react to unexpected circumstances?” And “Was the Body of Christ a Plan-B or a contingency?”
We then answer the critics who say the allegation that “God cannot lie” in Titus 1:2 is contradicted elsewhere in the Bible and study out instances where God deceived his enemies or concealed facts from others. We establish the right division between God’s witness and man’s, and define “false witness” versus telling a lie to the wicked.
We compare the list of qualifications for elders in Titus with the list for bishops in I Timothy. with a particular examination of what Paul means by a “striker.” And we define “filthy lucre biblically, and discuss why the term “Holy Ghost” is absent modern English Bibles, but is so prevalent in the original English Bibles.
